Edna's Success Story

Edna moved to Canada from Nigeria, arriving in Calgary only a month prior to applying for service with Calgary Career Hub. She was dependent on her family for income and knew she needed to find work so she could support her household. Being new to Canada, Edna required assistance on how to market her talents and get a start in the Canadian job market.

“I want to highlight the importance of persistence and the support of Calgary Career Hub in helping people achieve their career goals.”

When Edna arrived at Calgary Career Hub, she presented her resume which needed some adjustments to help focus on her strengths. Her Career Advisor knew she would benefit from workshops like HERO Job Search, Resume Writing, Cover Letters & References, Interview Skills and more. By following Calgary Career Hub’s 12-week plan and receiving one-on-one job search support from her Career Advisor, Edna’s confidence began to build.

“What I appreciated the most about Calgary Career Hub was their unwavering support and guidance throughout my job search journey. Their dedicated staff and valuable resources made the process smoother and helped me gain the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful job hunt.”

Edna gained positivity and confidence in her capabilities. She was committed and attended all workshops using the skills learned to perfect her resume, cover letter and self-marketing. Edna was encouraged by the Job Development team to accept an entry level position as an Administrative Assistant. This eventually turned into a very lucrative position of employment in a fairly short time. Edna’s employment was a contract position to the end of September 2023, but she took the opportunity to prove herself as an asset to the organization, and she was soon offered a permanent position with a higher wage and benefit package.

“What makes me the proudest about these achievements is the fact that I was able to overcome challenges and secure a job, which not only provided financial stability but also boosted my self-esteem and confidence.”

Congratulations Edna!
