Kelsey's Success Story

Kelsey was struggling with applying for jobs and maintaining a positive outlook, after applying for jobs unsuccessfully for six months. She applied to Calgary Career Hub after receiving a rejection from an interview that she was very hopeful about.

“I feel that without my up-to-date resume and great interview skills, I may have not been given a chance at the next step.”

Kelsey knew there were areas she needed help with when it came to finding the right career and Calgary Career Hub was able to help her complete twelve different workshops from Interview Skills, Networking, Self-Marketing and Resumes and Cover Letters. Her Career advisor helped her overcome a lot of anxiety when it came to behavioural interview questions and encouraged her to have confidence in her answers and her abilities. They were helpful in outlining healthy habits to manage mental health throughout the stress of a job search. Her Career Advisor encouraged her to set boundaries and have time for job search and time to relax afterwards, to avoid burnout.

“[I was proud] that I was able to gain knowledge and understand how to best complete things to make myself stand out. But also, I did gain several interviews which helped give me experience.”

She began applying for roles with more confidence and kept in touch with her Career Advisor often. She also reached out to address issues she had with interview skills and practiced them. All these steps helped with attaining not one but two job offers. She accepted a job as a Billing Administrative Clerk at a company she felt was the best fit for her and her skillset.

“[I was a success] because I was able to go eight months without a job and even at seven months, I was able to keep trying and not give up and now I have a fantastic role I’m excited to have!”

Congratulations Kelsey!
