Tara's Story

Tara had been a stay-at-home mom taking care of her family for the past 9 years before she decided to access services with Calgary Career Hub. Tara felt that her primary barrier to employment was that she had a significant gap in her work history. Further, she had not needed to look for work in a long time and was not feeling confident in her ability to job search effectively. Although she had a lot to offer employers, Tara felt that since she had not worked in a formal position in a long time, her skillset would be perceived as less valuable. Due to a lack of confidence and current work references, Tara sought out our help!

Upon acceptance into CCH, Tara dedicated her time to her primary goals, which included updating her resume, practicing her interview skills and gaining more confidence in her abilities. To resolve her barriers, CCH provided a variety of support. Tara attended workshops: Resumes That Get Read, Interview Skills, Speed Interviewing, Effective Communication, and Progress Support Hub. Tara also attended an Employer Spotlight, where she was able to learn about corporate and store-level opportunities within Starbucks. Tara also worked closely with her Job Developer, who assisted Tara by providing job leads and matching her with job opportunities that fit with her values and skillset.

What made Tara a triumph was her eagerness to learn about the job search process. She took the time and initiative to apply the skills she learned in the workshops and apply it towards finding a meaningful job for herself. In no time, Tara’s confidence increased as she networked with other clients and built new relationships within the Calgary Career Hub Centre.

When asked about what she appreciated the most about Calgary Career Hub, Tara stated,

“I have a job that I am passionate about, with a company that shares my values and offers flexibility and independence for the best work/life balance. With CCH’s guidance, I worked the process and am thrilled with the outcome!”.

Tara attributes her success to learning a lot about the job search process and actively applying that knowledge. It was due to this that she was able to secure a job as a Care Team Associate.

Congrats, Tara!
