Ashley had a fierce determination to break into government regulatory affairs. However, her road to employment was filled with obstacles. Even as an expert in her field, and possessing the advanced qualification of a Ph.D., she was unemployed for eight months. Ashley found herself hitting walls of perceived overqualification and a narrowed job target.
Bala Kanchana came to Canada with more than 17 years of experience in the Information Technology field from India. She desired to obtain a manager role in the IT sector. She had been looking for a job for a couple of months with no luck until she was directed to Calgary Career Hub.
Antonio had just graduated from university, with a master’s in engineering. He was finding it difficult to find a job in his field or even get a response from job applications. While he was employed, he was working less than sixteen hours a week and he knew it wasn’t sustainable. So, after over two months of searching, he reached out to Calgary Career Hub for assistance.
Edna moved to Canada from Nigeria, arriving in Calgary only a month prior to applying for service with Calgary Career Hub. Being new to Canada, Edna required assistance on how to market her talents and get a start in the Canadian job market.
Kristyna decided to take an extended maternity leave in 2020. In the last few years, she had worked on various creative contracts in Arts Management but wanted to get back to a full-time position in her field of interest. Her goal was to work in Arts Management and potentially pursue a certification in fund development.

Kelsey was struggling with applying for jobs and maintaining a positive outlook, after applying for jobs unsuccessfully for six months. She applied to Calgary Career Hub after receiving a rejection from an interview that she was very hopeful about.
Jossue had been unemployed for a month as he was completely new to Calgary. He graduated in Business Administration and had previous experience in Sales and Customer Service but wanted to transition to a new career path in Project Management and Coordination. Jossue’s main barrier was the lack of experience in the field he wanted to transition into.
Mmenyene arrived in Canada in January of 2023 and had been looking for work since. She originally studied in Victoria, BC and then returned to Nigeria before settling in Calgary. Her biggest challenge in sustaining work was her lack of Canadian work experience. Although she had some experience in the Technology industry, she was still quite new.
Kateryna, originally from Ukraine, arrived in Canada in early 2023 with her husband and two-year-old child. She left her employment to flee the Russian-Ukrainian war in her home country. Although they found safety in Canada, she had been unemployed for over five months.
