Varun's Success Story

When Varun arrived in Canada in October 2023, he faced the daunting challenge of restarting his career in a new country. By February 2024, he turned to Calgary Career Hub for support after months of job searching with little success.

Initially submitting only five applications per week, he struggled to find roles aligned with his background in business analysis. With guidance from Calgary Career Hub, Varun increased his weekly applications to over 15 and received targeted support in résumé writing, LinkedIn optimization, and interview preparation. He also explored new industries, including insurance, which ultimately opened new doors.

Through 12 employment workshops, a group interview preparation session, and personalized coaching, Varun refined his interview skills—especially using the STAR method—and gained the confidence to succeed in a group interview setting. This led to a full-time role as a Property and Casualty Insurance Advisor at Desjardins, where he worked 40 hours per week and earned valuable Canadian experience. The position also came with a significant bonus: the employer covered the cost of his Alberta Level 1 and Ontario OTL insurance certifications.

Faiqa’s help gave me the confidence I needed to succeed.” Although his role at Desjardins has since ended, Varun remains optimistic. With Canadian experience and certifications under his belt, he’s now well-positioned to continue building a successful career in the insurance industry.
